Morocco is a land of contrasts, where the cultures of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East blend harmoniously. Known as a moderate Islamic nation, Morocco is welcoming to all, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation. Over the centuries, it has drawn a variety of visitors, from ancient philosophers to modern-day icons like Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix. Whether you’re exploring the vibrant souks of Marrakech, the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, the serene Sahara Desert, or the pristine beaches along the Atlantic, Morocco offers an unforgettable and diverse experience.
Our 14-day Morocco itinerary takes you on a journey from Marrakech to the Merzouga Desert, allowing you to experience the country’s rich culture. You’ll visit historic cities, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes while immersing yourself in the local Berber music, flavorful cuisine, and unique shopping experiences. Along the way, you’ll also have opportunities for community service and thrilling adventure activities. Interact with the warm Berber tribes, learn about their drumming traditions, practice their language, and savor their delicious dishes—your two weeks in Morocco will be filled with lasting memories and exciting experiences.
When you arrive at Marrakech airport on your first day in Morocco, our driver/guide will greet you and take you to your Hotel or Riad. Take some time to unwind and get comfortable. You will spend the night in Marrakech.
On the second morning of our 14-day tour from Marrakech, after breakfast, your local guide will meet you at your accommodation in the city. Together, you will explore Marrakech, also known as the “Red City of Morocco,” a historic hub for traders and travelers. Revered as the “southern pearl” and the “second oldest imperial city,” Marrakech is rich in culture and history.
Our itinerary includes visits to significant sites such as the Saadian Tombs, the majestic El Bahia and El Badi Palaces, the Ben Youssef Quranic School (Ben Youssef Madrasa), and the iconic Koutoubia Mosque with its towering 77-meter-high minaret. We will also explore the Menara Gardens and Jardin Majorelle, which require advance booking. The day will continue with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Jamaa El-Fna, where you can relax at cafés while enjoying the lively ambiance, complete with magicians, storytellers, snake charmers, and street food. We will conclude the day by discovering the vibrant souks and spend the night in Marrakech.
After breakfast, we will leave Marrakech and embark on our scenic drive through the High Atlas mountains. The road, built by the Foreign Legion in 1936, winds its way through the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2260m), offering stunning views of the mountains before reaching the village of Ait Benhaddou.
Following a visit to the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, we will cross a riverbed and continue towards Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” In Ouarzazate, you’ll explore the cinematographic museum before passing by the impressive kasbahs of Skoura and traveling through the Valley of the Roses, renowned for its May Rose Festival. As we journey further, we’ll pass through picturesque villages, with Berber women working in fields and the majestic High Atlas peaks in the background. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the Dades Gorges, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes.
After breakfast at the riad or hotel, we’ll drive through the valley to see the unique “monkey toes” rock formations. Leaving Dades Valley, we’ll head towards Tinghir and the Todra Valley, where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of traditional mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Upon reaching the gorge, you’ll have the chance to walk beneath towering 300-meter-high red cliffs, a popular destination for rock climbers. On the way between Tinjdad and Erfoud, we can visit the fascinating underground water channels, which remain cool and prevent evaporation, essential for irrigation. In Erfoud, we’ll stop to explore fossil artifacts crafted from the region’s rich deposits.
Lunch will be served in a Berber village before we continue to Erg Chebbi, an expansive sea of sand. Here, you’ll embark on a camel trek across the towering dunes. Your local guide will teach you how to mount and dismount safely. After enjoying a stunning sunset from a high dune, you’ll ride camels to your desert camp for the night. A delicious dinner will be followed by traditional Berber music under the stars. Feel free to join in the dance to the music’s rhythm before waking up early to witness the breathtaking desert sunrise.
After an early wake-up, you’ll be able to witness the breathtaking desert sunrise, a truly magical moment. Then, head back to the desert camp where you can freshen up with a shower and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Afterward, our desert adventure kicks off as we explore the Erg Chebbi region. We’ll travel off-road to visit nomadic families living near the dunes, giving you a glimpse into their unique way of life in the Sahara Desert. We’ll also share a cup of mint tea with them.
Next, we’ll make our way to the M’Fis mines, perched on a high plateau with stunning panoramic views of the desert and Erg Chebbi. Then, we’ll head to Khamlia Village, home to the Gnaoua people who trace their roots to Black Africa. Their ancestors were brought to Morocco via desert caravans from Central and West Africa. You’ll get a chance to immerse yourself in their culture, enjoying traditional Gnaoua music. Afterward, we’ll treat you to a delicious Berber pizza for lunch before visiting Lake Dayet Sarji, home to pink flamingos in the spring. In the evening, we’ll return to Merzouga and drop you off at your accommodation for the night.
After breakfast at your accommodation, we’ll begin our journey to Fes, passing through Errachidia. Along the way, we’ll be treated to the stunning views of Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees line the landscape, surrounded by numerous Ksours (fortified villages). As we make our way through Tizi N’Talghamt (Pass of the She Camel), we’ll ascend from the desert plains to the towering peaks of the High Atlas mountains, eventually reaching Midelt for a lunch break and a refreshing cup of mint tea.
Our journey continues to Michlifen, a mountain town nestled in the Middle Atlas, where we’ll stop to observe the Barbary macaques in the cedar forests. Then, we’ll head towards Ifrane, often dubbed the “French Village” or “Switzerland of Morocco.” Before we reach your accommodation in Fes, we’ll pause for a photo opportunity or a quick drink. Finally, you’ll spend the night in a hotel or riad in Fes.
After breakfast, you’ll meet our local guide in Fes for a full-day exploration. Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities, founded in 808 as the first political, religious, and cultural capital. The tour will begin at the Golden Doors of the Royal Palace, followed by a visit to a viewpoint offering a stunning view of the ancient walls surrounding the Old Medina (Fes El-Bali). We’ll then walk through the Medina, allowing you to absorb its lively atmosphere and rich history.
During the tour, you’ll visit various mosques, madrassas, and religious sites before reaching the Tanners’ district. Please note that lunch is not included, but we’ll stop at a traditional Moroccan restaurant in the Medina. Afterwards, we’ll head to the artisan quarter, where skilled craftsmen continue to practice techniques passed down from Spain, preserving Andalusian art and culture. In the evening, you’ll have free time to explore on your own before spending the night at a hotel or riad.
After breakfast at your hotel or riad in Fes, we will head towards the Roman ruins of Volubilis, an open-air museum that provides an intriguing look into Morocco’s ancient past. While not as monumental as other Roman sites along the Mediterranean, Volubilis offers a more relaxed yet informative experience to connect with an essential part of Moroccan history. We will also make a stop in Meknes, founded by Moulay Ismail at the end of the 17th Century, often referred to as “The Moroccan Versailles.”
Our journey will then take us through the picturesque Rif Mountains, with their lush agricultural hills, on the way to Chefchaouen. Famous for its vibrant blue-painted buildings, Chefchaouen is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, especially during the summer months. By evening, we will arrive in this captivating town, giving you a chance to explore its charming medina, with white and blue-washed walls, and browse local markets filled with unique handcrafted goods. Today, we’ll begin our day early to photograph the peaceful, empty streets of Chefchaouen. Often referred to as the “blue pearl of Morocco,” this picturesque city lies at the base of the Rif Mountains, from which it gets its name, “Chaouen,” meaning “horns,” inspired by the mountain’s distinctive shape. Established in 1471 by Moulay Ali Ben Moussa as a small fortress, Chefchaouen later came under Spanish rule before becoming independent in 1956. The city’s signature blue and white-washed buildings make it a photographer’s paradise.
Chefchaouen is world-renowned, drawing both tourists and locals, particularly during the hot summer months. The town’s striking blue-painted houses give it a vibrant, lively atmosphere. As you wander through the narrow, winding streets, you’ll discover bustling souks offering local delicacies and artisan crafts, including intricate embroidery, woolen goods, and goat’s cheese, all native to the northern region and unique to Morocco. Our journey then takes us from Chefchaouen to Tangier, passing through the lush valleys of the Rif Mountains. Along the way, we’ll stop in Tetouan, a city steeped in history and known for its Andalusian-inspired architecture, before ending the day with an overnight stay in Tangier.
After breakfast in Tangier, we will begin our exploration of this city, which has long been a melting pot of diverse cultures, serving as the bridge between Africa and Europe. Before heading to Casablanca, we’ll take a tour of Tangier and its surroundings, including the vibrant medina. We’ll visit historic landmarks like the Hercules Cave and Cape Spartel, offering breathtaking views where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.
Next, our journey will lead us to the artistic town of Asilah, renowned for its pristine whitewashed buildings. Take a leisurely walk through its well-preserved medina, where the influences of Andalusian and Moroccan cultures blend seamlessly. From there, we will head to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, home to significant monuments such as the Royal Palace and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Key highlights include visiting the Chellah Necropolis, the Oudaias Kasbah, the Hassan Tower, and wandering through the city’s charming medina.
After breakfast in Casablanca, head south along the Atlantic coast towards Essaouira, with stops in El Jadida and Oualidia. El Jadida, a UNESCO World Heritage city, offers a glimpse into its Portuguese past, once known as Mazagan. From there, visit Oualidia, a peaceful coastal town famed for its stunning lagoon and fresh seafood, earning the title of Morocco’s “Oyster Capital.”
Continue your journey along the scenic coastal road to Essaouira, known for its relaxed vibe, artistic heritage, and historic medina, another UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation and spend the evening at leisure, exploring the city’s bustling harbor, ramparts, and vibrant souks. Enjoy an overnight stay in Essaouira.
You’ll have a full day to leisurely explore the charming town of Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, a historic Portuguese settlement. Start your day by visiting the Skalla Fortress, which is part of the town’s fortifications designed by a follower of the French architect Vauban. Then, stroll through the narrow streets of the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can discover intricate local arts and crafts, including beautiful carvings made from Thuya wood. For lunch, enjoy fresh seafood at a seaside restaurant, taking in the lovely atmosphere of this coastal town.
Essaouira, known for its mild climate and cool summer breezes, is often called the “City of the Wind” and is a hotspot for surfers worldwide. The town boasts a rich history, with influences from the Romans, Phoenicians, and Portuguese evident in its architecture. In addition to its historical charm, Essaouira is home to the renowned Gnaoua Music Festival each June, drawing musicians from across Africa and beyond. After a day of exploring, unwind by the beach, soaking in the stunning sunset.
Today we will leave Essaouira behind and head towards Marrakech, known as the “Pearl of the South”. During our journey, you will have the opportunity to visit the Argan Oil Women’s Cooperative and learn how this highly valued oil is produced right here in Morocco. Then, We will drive via local villages, enjoying the natural beauty of rural areas. As we travel, we’ll stop in Ounagha, an area well-known for its Argan trees. At this stop, you might see goats feeding on the hanging branches of the trees, which is a fantastic sight to watch.
Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will spend the rest of the day at your leisure. You will have the opportunity to visit the square of Jamma El-Fna, the Koutoubia mosque, and the Majorelle Gardens, which require a booking in advance via the official website (it’s better to book the tickets one to two days before the visit date). We will spend the night in Marrakech.
Today, we’ll immerse ourselves in the vibrant souks of Marrakech, where the colorful markets and bustling atmosphere promise to create unforgettable memories with friends. Explore the labyrinth of stalls, filled with spices, textiles, and local treasures, as you soak in the unique energy of the city.
After a day of adventure, we’ll make our way to Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of our incredible 14-day journey through Morocco. It’s been an unforgettable experience, filled with culture, history, and stunning landscapes.
